Highview Arts Center is proud to produce its inaugural New Play Festival! The generation of new work and new artists is important to our mission, and we’d love for you to participate. Submissions will be accepted until December 31 at 11:59 p.m. Final decisions will be made no later than January 9, 2023. Performances of New Play Festival will run March 10-12. We can’t wait to read your plays!

 

Please take a look at these submission requirements for the 10-minute New Play Festival at Highview Arts Center:

• Playwrights must live in Kentucky or in surrounding counties 

• Plays should not have been previously produced, or only produced once locally. 

• Playwrights may submit one or two scripts. If more are sent, they will not be read.

• Plays should be between 8 and 12 minutes in length. (A page is roughly 1 minute.) 

• Plays should be small casts, ideally needing no more than 4 actors. 

• Plays should be easy to stage. We may not be able to produce a play with excessive technical requirements. Choose your plays wisely.

FORMATTING GUIDELINES

• Plays should be properly formatted. If unsure how to format, please review the formatting examples. Proper formatting helps us determine the length of the play.

• The play should be submitted as either a PDF or a Word document

• There should be a separate title page with the title of the play and the playwright's name and contact information.

• The second page should have the list of characters and any setting descriptions needed.

• A playwright bio should be provided either on the second page or as a separate document. (No longer than 250 words)

• Page numbering: The title pages should not be numbered. Please start numbering at the start of the play itself.

• Font and margins: 12-pt font and 1-inch margins are preferred to help us determine length of the play.

• Length: If following the above formatting guidelines, the play should be between 8-12 pages (not including the title page and second page)
